Sasha Hill
Hi, I’m Sasha! I joined the University of Oxford in 2023, reading MSc Biodiversity, Conservation and Management, which led me to the Seascape Ecology Lab for my dissertation project.
While in the Seascape Ecology Lab, I focused on the coral reefs of an atoll seascape in French Polynesia called Tetiaroa. My MSc dissertation used a traits-based approach to investigate how biophysical drivers shape the atoll’s coral reefs, providing insight into the coral community's characteristics and functioning. However, alongside my dissertation, I contributed to complementary research investigating the structure of Tetiaroa’s benthic communities, which became my first co-authorship. I am excited to continue as a research assistant, building upon the skills I have already developed in my short time at Oxford and putting them into practice in the lab.
Prior to Oxford University, I graduated from the University of Exeter with BSc Biological Sciences, having acquired a love for marine biology and conservation. This led to my interest in the interface between the two, and my MSc studies have allowed me to refine this to the conservation policy space. I hope this RA role will enhance my understanding of translating research into conservation strategies and governance.
In my free time, I enjoy being outside and anything related to animals, particularly horses. I also love food, photography, and travelling.
