Dr Lisa Wedding

Welcome to the Seascape Ecology lab! I am Dr Lisa Wedding, and I grew up in the coastal community of Ventura, California, USA, with a strong connection to the ocean. Currently, I am an Associate Professor in the School of Geography and the Environment and a Tutorial Fellow of Worcester College, University of Oxford.

Prior to April 2019, I held a Research Associate position at the Center for Ocean Solutions, Stanford University.

My research focuses on understanding the social-ecological causes and consequences of spatial patterns and ecological processes in the marine environment. Increasingly, my research is positioned at the interface between science and policy and I often work with a highly interdisciplinary team of lawyers, social scientists, and practitioners where I link place-based scientific research findings to inform ocean governance.

At the University of Oxford, I am excited to build on this past work and foster an inclusive lab group that can bring diverse perspectives needed to creatively address complex marine environmental problems and illuminate science-based solutions. At the Oxford Seascape Ecology Lab, we are guided by our core lab values and our research is centered around three main thematic areas including 1) seascape ecology and conservation; 2) cultural seascapes and ecosystem services and; 3) linking geospatial data science to ocean governance solutions.
